Still no excuses!

One of my biggest pet peeves is people making excuses!  Hey, we can all make an excuse for just about everything there is that you don't want to do.  I can find thousands of them on a daily basis.  But, of course, you are only cheating yourself so why bother? ( I don't like cheaters either).  So, given that I decided to train for a 5K a couple weeks ago, I knew I would just have to keep going no matter what. And I have!
I was never a runner and don't even know if I ever will be or even want to be but I do like a challenge and I like to try new things. I get bored easy. So I have been true to my word and get on the treadmill 6 days a week following my training program. Actually, I think treadmills are very boring, but I also hate the cold so  I have a few more weeks to wait to run outdoors. But, in the meantime I have found a way to make it a bit more fun. Yeah- new music on the IPOD!  I used to watch TV and that made me even more crazy. All I did was watch the digital numbers and wish it was over.  So I found a few years ago and just found some new music I liked and downloaded away. I needed new fast dance music to get me going and now the time flies and I am a happy camper!
Here is the newly added lineup that makes me keep going!  Crank up the volume and speed up the excuses- GO!

Lady Gaga- Poker Face, Just Dance
Kate Perry- I kissed a girl
Christina Aguilera- Fighter
Kelly Clarkson- Miss Independent
Carrie Underwood- Before He Cheats
Pink- Raise your Glass,  F** Perfect, Funhouse, Get the Party Started, So What.
I am a huge Pink Fan!
And of course I have my old favorites too but these really rock...
Gotta run!

Party On!

Who doesn't like a party?  It's fun to re-connect with friends and family and actually enjoy a good time once in a while.  Soon the weather will eventually warm up and we will be outside in the sun BQ' ing and all that good stuff.  But it's not just adults that like parties- kids do too and if you have little ones, you know that the birthday party invites will soon be arriving in your mailbox in droves. At least that's how I remember it.  In fact, it's already happening.  Last week I received an email from a sweet  young woman who was, in fact, planning a kids party.  Turns out she was not only planning ahead but also thinking out of the box.  She wanted something different for party favors- not the usual dollar store plastic toys. So, I must say she was quite creative when she decided to purchase dozens of Bluepie Kids "Secret Stash" Cuffs for all the party goers!  On party day, all the little ones will have a very cool gift to bring home and actually use, not just on party day but always!  It's a win- win!  I can't wait to see the photos. Party on.

From My Heart to Yours...

Given that Valentines Day is approaching and February is also heart month, it makes perfect sense to realize how important a functioning heart really is. (Heart Disease is the #1 killer of women)  So, it also made perfect sense to start taking better care of mine. Although I do my daily strength training, I am lazy about getting out for a walk or hopping the treadmill.  I needed a kick in the butt and by chance I got one from my friend Sara at
Laziness has turned into motivation and I have decided to train for a 5K.  I was never a runner and I may never be one but I want to train as one and I want my heart  to stay strong.
It will be an eight week program and I start on Monday- (but I was so psyched I actually did a mile this morning!)
So, yeah I'm off and running!  Wish me luck and hey- maybe this is contagious for you as it was for me.
Get off the couch and give yourself and your heart a hug!

Almost Famous!

So, maybe being online all the time is a good thing!  I submitted a Bluepie  "Secret Stash" Cuff for
It's a gallery for Handmade items- Their motto is "People not Factories" and Yipeee...It was accepted!
Okay, I may not be famous but I feel like I am!

My First True Love...

I have been spending WAY too much time online lately. Of course its a necessary evil.  I must stay on top of marketing, advertising etc, for Bluepie otherwise how and where would I sell all this stuff I make?  No genie is going to knock on my front door and give me loads of cash!  However, as much as I LOVE my MAC and the internet and making handbags, secret stash cuffs, passion pillows, hand dyed scarves, and the million other items I dream up, nothing comes close to my first true love- painting! You know with sable  brushes, oils,  watercolors,  quality paper, a good stretched canvas.  Just set up an easel, turn on the IPOD and mix up the paints.  I go into another zone, another level of consciousness.  It's not work, its play. It's leaving the real world and entering the twilight zone for a while. It's being a kid with no responsibilities,  no worries, no time clock.
So, I've made time once again for my first true love. My latest venture has been painting custom home watercolor portraits. My own home is the first painting.  I am halfway done and will post the finished product as soon as it's complete. It's coming along great.  I'm in love once again with sketching, color, paints and design! It's exciting  to have a brush in hand and drift away to wherever it is that I go.

Okay, its time to sign off for now- gotta go smell the paints!
Here's a couple of paintings from years past:
Leave a comment if you can to inspire me! thanks!

The Traveler

To me, there is nothing more satisfying  than traveling the world to see unique or remote locations,  meet people from different  cultures,  enjoy incredible sights, sounds and adventures.  Of course there's the food, cool pubs,  and hanging out with the locals.  But right now, during  the dead of winter in New Jersey instead of traveling, I am planning to travel. I am addicted to the Travel Channel, Rachael Ray's $40 a Day,  Samantha Browns Passport to Europe, Rick Steves, Anthony Bourdain and whatever else I can find while I browse with my remote. I am not overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, instead I am on my living room couch with maps, travel brochures and of course my best buddy- the internet. It's all good though- In fact planning a trip is almost have the fun. I dream of where I will go, how I will get there, who I will meet and what clothes I will pack. (its a great excuse to buy some new stuff too)
But what really tops the list for me is seeing the world through my camera (and it a brand new Nikon- A Bluepie treat to me!)  There is nothing better than composing, hearing the shutter click and knowing I am making memories that I can look back on and relive the best moments of my trip.
So, for now I look at photographs  from years past, from an actual scrapbook or an online digital travel site.
I began one a few years ago at
Very cool!. I keep a journal of every step of the way (nerds do this ) on each trip not only because  I love to write but also so I can remember what the hell I did! After all what good are memories if you can't remember them!
This morning I  spent time gathering up my handcrafted photo cards, writing up descriptions and posting away on Etsy. They remind me of the good times I've had and my hope is that they will create new dreams and connections for others who may hold them in their hands and feel the same magic I did.
I dont' know where I will end up this year but I know it will be another not- to- be missed adventure!

healthy cookies!

i'm exhausted! what a workout I had today.. Stirring the batter for my peanut butter oatmeal raisin cookies was an awesome upper body workout!
Of course they are healthy cookies, and along with a glass of cholesterol lowering red wine - well, let just say- I may not have to do my push ups later after the game...

Diets don't work....

says Aly cat.  "I will never fit into my new bikini at this rate!" And I was so hoping to coordinate it with a new summer Bluepie bag!  I guess I better hit the treadmill as soon as the snow melts!"
