Creative Juices!

A month ago I was at the beach- Long beach Island NJ actually. It's magical there. But something else happens at nearly any beach you go to. It's a transformation in some ways. Downshift. Chill. Remove yourself from reality. It's a good thing and also necessary to clear your mind and invigorate the creative juices. I go with my BFF and we play, we create (yes, really- we are back in kindergarden coloring and pasting with Elmers glue-) The boundaries fold, we bring on the magic markers, the paints, the fabric and just have fun and explore. Then the magic happens. Ideas ignite, light bulb moments are a dime a dozen. A masterpiece is created! But it wouldn't have if we didn't give the space for it to be. It also helps if you are a little bit of a nerd. So, we come away with sand between our toes, photographs to prove it, new creations and memories until the next time. Life is good at the beach.

Brain Overload etc....

After a full month in June of craft shows, I was feeling a bit burned out, not to mention exhausted! So, figured I'd take a break from the sweat shop for a week or so and work on marketing, advertising, learning some new tricks for Bluepie headquarters. Okay, now I'd rather be sewing and out at a craft show! Being online 24/7 is even more crazy. I am learning some new tricks of the trade, but sometimes it's slow going. I like to figure out everything myself so the there is a lot of trial and error. My to-do list is never ending - why is that?- Oh, yea, I guess it's because with every click, I discover something else that I must do! I am happy that I've accomplished something though. Designing a Newsletter through Mail Chimp is almost done- lots of work but I think in the end it will be worth it. I now have a sidebar link on the left my Facebook Fan Page: that will take you to my email newsletter sign up page. For me, this is pretty cool that I even figured out how to do it! ( I hope you will go check it out and sign up pretty please!) Its also right here on this blog too, over to the left!
I also contacted Rare Bird Finds and was really thrilled that they featured my Secret Stash Cuff on their website. They are always looking for unique, cool handcrafted items. You can check that out here too:
So...that made me a happer camper!
Of course, I am no where near done with THE LIST--- I still have lots to figure out about blogging- never thought writing would be so complex- and I will be adding a Facebook landing page soon too. I am convinced now though that anything you need to learn can be found on You Tube! I will march on and in between all of this, I actually have to make stuff and produce a product! Hoping my brain holds out so I remember how to sew!
Bluepie signing off for now- must get back to the world of cyberspace...

Got TV?

As far back as I can remember, I watched TV. From little kid to big kid. After school, I was the first one to rush home and push the ON button (no remotes back in the dark ages) I watched all the cartoons on saturday morning. I lived in the perfect world of Father Knows Best, Donna Reed, My Three sons. (which by the way totally screwed up my life- false expectations are a very bad thing)
I unfortunately was also hooked on the soaps while my toddler at the time watched me watch the soaps. General Hospital, One Life to Live and, of course, we can't forget All My Children. More nonsense and insanity filling my brain. But at that point, my brain cells were probably fried anyway. Know, I know this sounds harsh but looking back- what was I thinking? Oh Yea, I wasn't. Addicts don't usually catch on right away. TV was as much a part of my life as brushing my teeth or eating Mac and Cheese from a box. So, I grew up, did other things but still watched daily TV. It was on even if I wasn't watching it. You know..background noise so you don't feel alone. So now after a hundred years or so, something miraculous has happened. I don't watch TV at all anymore! No one came to my house with a gun to threaten me. No one offered me money to quit. No one suggested I was an addict and should stop viewing to save my cells. Aliens did not drop down from above to re-program my brain It just happened gradually. I didn't plan it. I still loved the Travel shows, The Today Show, the cooking channels, HOUSE, MEDIUM, Oprah (now cancelled!) Desperate Housewives - the list goes on. After a few weeks though, I realized that I never turned on the TV. It was a miracle. But then, of course, I had to figure out why. (Evidently, I did have a few working cells left) It was actually quite simple. I was on overload. A power outage to the brain. Stimuli was coming at me from all angles, not just the television. Massive music on Itunes, You Tube videos, neighbors dogs barking, noisy outdoor air conditioners, electric weed wackers, and leaf blowers. However, the most annoying noise of all was my other half- now retired screaming on the phone for 3-5 hours a day in a a very loud voice. Okay, you get the picture- my head was ready to explode! I needed a break. I started to meditate every morning. I went for walks in the park. Road my bike. I read books. I wrote. I photographed. I painted watercolors. I worked even harder on Bluepiedesigns learning about Google Analytics, RSS feeds, Facebook Pages and, of course, sewing and designing. I accomplished things! I had a life. My brain did not explode. I don't miss TV at all. In fact, I don't think I am missing anything at all. I listen to the birds now and look at blue skies and billowing white clouds. I am happier. My life is quiet. When I need noise, I still dance with my IPOD and and scream with PINK or BLACK EYED PEAS. I may still want to be a rock star some day. But one who doesn't watch TV.
