Luscious Leather!

Finally made my first leather bag- yeah! success!! It was not an easy task thou without an industrial machine.  I can get thru 2 layers of leather, but not 3 or 4. So...if i decide to take this to the next level, I may have to get another machine.  I already have an idea for a new pattern. I love the organic feel, the smell and the durability of leather too. So, let me know what you think of the new Cezanne Leather Hobo!

If you are getting married......

Any one who is getting married and going the traditional route of planning a wedding knows that the task is overwhelming.  No sense even listing all the things that need to be done in preparation because all brides know what they are. Yikess!!!  However, if you are in the planning stage, there is one thing on the list that you can now check off.  Bridesmaids gifts!  At Bluepie Designs you can check this task off your list with a unique, beautiful gift for your lovely friends. I have to say an Etsy friend  gave me this idea. She was planning a wedding and wanted something special and different.  Her choice was the Matisse Clutch bag! Totally unique, cannot be bought at Macys and no one else will ever have the same one. And the price is right. No sense breaking the bank before the wedding if you don't have to. And the good news is you don't have too. I like to make my prices affordable for all to enjoy. She also wanted each bridesmaid to have a there own unique bag- no duplicates here.  Which is not a problem for me. I have tons of gorgeous fabric and of course, was up to the task.
So, here is a look at some of the Matisse bags that are currently available. (There are so many to choose from that I can't show them all here but they will all be available on my Etsy site shortly.)
So- if you are tying the knot- don't sweat the small stuff...make it easy on yourself, save a few bucks and  give your bridesmaids a stunning Matisse clutch that  they will LOVE and treasure because it was given by you and made special for them.

to DYE for!

I have really missed painting!  So busy with sewing bags and making Secret Stash Cuffs, I haven't had much time left for my first love....drawing and painting.  So, recently decided to get into color once again. Only this time, its with exciting!  The colors are amazing- they blend together and you really never know what you will get.  It's a process that explodes as you paint- this time I am painting on silk. I am hooked and know that I will never stop. The best part is experimenting. Take a piece of silk and let the colors run wild. Of course, I have some idea of what I want to happen but the colors and the dye rule.  I stand by and watch as my world blends together.  So- the latest Bluepie designs are hand dyed scarves in all the colors of the rainbow.  Here are a few that will be at the next few art show and of course, end up at
Hope you like them!

One Woman Show

Its not easy being a one woman show and that is what Bluepie Designs is.  Literally.  I do everything myself from sewing, shopping, making labels, writing descriptions and taking photos for my Etsy shop, marketing, advertising, planning dreaming, computer work, and the list goes on.  But, I am not complaining because I am doing exactly what I want to do. In fact, it's what I should have done 30 years ago. I know this, of course, not only because I am older and wiser but because its just so obvious when you finally do what you love. It feels right and so you know it is. It's not brain surgery.  It's too bad we don't trust our instincts when we are young. Well, I guess some people do but they are the lucky ones.
So, now I am busy, very busy, getting ready for an art show in the fall.  It will be in New Hope, NJ at the Paxson Hill Farm.  I did this same show last year and it was lots of work but also a lot of fun and a success.
So here I go again. Sewing, creating displays, thinking, planning , worrying if I am forgetting anything, and sewing more in between all the rest.  I have about 2-3 more weeks and time is running out!
This year I am even more excited since I will have larger matted travel photographs from all my travels in recent years. Not only did I obviously take the photographs but I recently learned how to cut my own mats using the conservator hinging method. It's a very professional way to put a photo together with a mat.  I am proud to say I did a good job and love the results!  For me, there is no better feeling than creating a work of art, especially when it's a labor of love.  The only thing I do need to work on is writing more in this blog. I love to write but at the end of the day (or even the beginning!) I haven't figured out a way to fit this in. Well, after all I AM only a one woman show. For now, I will cut myself some slack. But only for a few minutes. I have too much to do.

A few weeks ago, I got an email request from a wonderful woman who buys at Etsy, as stated below:

"I would love to get 2 black kids size wrist stash bands for my son. He is working with an Occupational Therapist who thinks something weighted around his wrist would give him better awareness of where his arms are in relation to his body. He loves to carry things around with him, so this seems like the perfect solution. He will be wearing them for karate and so black would be the logical color of choice. Please let me know if this would be possible.

After reading this I realized what a great idea it was.  Weight  can easily be added inside the cuff to use it for this benefit! It seems especially perfect for little kids. I was so glad I could help her and her son. It made me feel good.  Creativity is everywhere if we just stop, think and look!

Other news!

Bluepie has a  NEW BAG DESIGN!    It's the Frida Kahlo- of course named from another of my favorite artists.  (google her!)  Anyhow- its a really cool shoulder bag and I think, a perfect size.  But this bag is special because it includes a vintage pin that really makes it unique.  I made for my son as a gift to one of his clients. Her favorite color is yellow, so I picked a pale shade of yellow and sent it off to North Carolina. Turn out she LOVED IT- Yippeee...So, of course, another one was made and it will be  for sale on my Etsy site very soon. It will have it's own unique vintage broch too.. Very Cool!
(let me know what you think!)

"Skinny Chef" book signing

Last Monday night, I finally got to meet the "Skinny Chef", Jennifer Iserloh. She just published her first cookbook and had an awesome gathering for her business associates and friends at Dino and Harry's in Hoboken, NJ. It was a packed crowd too which just goes to show you how popular and successful she is, not to mention a great chef too. It was a great night out with champagne flowing and delicious appetizers. I met a few very interesting women also. It was so nice to talk with Stehanpie Lyness, a cookbook author/editor who helped Jennifer with this book. She came in from Connecticut for the night just to be there for her and say a few kind words. I had wanted to meet Jen for at least a year now. My son, Greg, who used to live in Hoboken had met her a while back at their favorite Hoboken hangout, Elysians. Greg, being not only a wonderful son, is also my biggest supporter. He tells everyone he meets about Bluepiedesigns. So, of course he told Jen and soon after she contacted me and asked if she could blog about my creative efforts on her website. She was sweet enough to do so and it was a real treat for me:
So, now it's my turn. I hope you will check out Jen's website- and also pick up a copy of her fabulous new cookbook- "Secrets of a Skinny Chef". I've tried her receipes. Not only are they easy and delicious but her book is filled with common sense wisdom regarding how to enjoy good food and stay healthy while you do. You can't go wrong. I was lucky enough not only to get an autographed copy of her new book but also to finally meet her- she is beautiful inside and out! (and that is no secret!) Congrats to you Jen and continued success!

Bluepie Babies

You never know where the next inspiration will come from. This time it was a baby shower that I was attending for a dear friend- In fact, it was a lovely young woman who used to babysit my own son years ago. So, Bluepie came up with the idea of a reversible receiving blanket. I found awesome, soft, thick flannel in so many adorable prints that I just could not resist! Dinosaurs, monkeys, frogs, princess castles, and the list went on. Oh, so cute!
But I had to make them unique, which just sort of happened. I folded them up with a special book or stuffed animal stuffed inside. They are wrapped just like a baby would be when you bring them home from the hospital. (there is a trick to wrapping them!)
Tada!!-- Bluepie babies were BORN!
My friend loved them and then another friend saw them and wanted a couple for a twins baby shower. Now they are available for everyone at Each one is unique, just like a real baby-
Check them out for the next baby on your list- They are sure to be a hit with the new mom-to-be!
